What is the LAB Student Ambassador Program?

So, you might be wondering a couple of things: First, what is a Student Ambassador? Also, what in the world is LAB?

Let’s start with the easier one first: LAB refers to SUNY Oneonta’s School of Liberal Arts and Business, which includes 13 departments, 20 major programs, and 30 minors, making up about 1700 students.

Student Ambassadors are interns housed in most of those 13 departments who work with the department chairs and faculty to promote student engagement. That may mean:

  • helping to organize events like guest speakers or alumni visits,
  • maintaining a social media presence,
  • developing outreach materials,
  • conducting polls or focus groups to gather students’ perspectives on the department and its programs, or
  • conducting polls or focus groups to gather students’ perspectives on the department and its programs, or
  • doing other things to help connect students and faculty.

The program itself consists of a three-credit course, INTD 3097: Internship in Interdisciplinary Study, which counts as upper division elective credit and may in some cases be applied toward major requirements at the department chair’s discretion.
